A More Convenient Season

Paul was under arrest, and the Roman governor Felix had full authority either to release him or keep him in jail.

After Paul’s initial defense before Felix, he had another opportunity to speak to him… Along with his wife Drusilla who was Jewish (Acts 24:24).

Rather than flatter Felix or try to win his favor, however, Paul instead spoke openly to him about “the faith in Christ”!

Finally Felix had had enough; he ordered Paul to leave, promising to listen more fully “when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.” — in other words, “when I find it convenient.” (Acts 24:25).

Hoping for a bribe (which Paul wouldn’t give), Felix did send for him repeatedly—but two years later Paul was still in jail, and Felix was still an unbeliever.

What about us today? Have we given heed to God’s Word, concerning such things as righteousness, self-control, and the judgment? Or have we endangered our souls by saying like Felix, “When I have a more convenient season…”

Don’t wait until a more convenient time to give your life to Christ; the devil will make sure it never happens.

No season will be more convenient than the present! Deck the halls with boughs of holly… Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la… ‘Tis the season to be jolly (saved)!
